The Hatteras 58 LRC master stateroom was originally built with a queen bed against the portside cabin wall, and a twin bed to starboard. However, her original owner insisted that Hatteras build them a different arrangement with a king-sized walk around bed to port, and a well-appointed desk to starboard. A very large, nearly walk-in closet is to port, and the ensuite master head to starboard. Beautiful teak walls, carpet, and white headliner are stylish and comfortable. Tremendous storage opportunities adorn the master stateroom. Two oversized opening portlights to aft, and two standard sized opening portlights to port and starboard encourage excellent airflow and natural lighting.

The pilot house of the Skooch was designed for both functionality and comfort during navigation. It’s helm station offers excellent visibility and is equipped with a range of navigation instruments, including radar (in-op), Simrad autopilot, and Raymarine chartplotters. The interior showcases luxurious teak woodwork and is flooded with natural light from large windows. Comfortable seating is provided for the captain and guests, alongside practical storage areas for navigation tools and personal items. It features two large twin bunks, a full closet, and two large drawer spaces under one bunk, while the other bunk houses a battery bank. Dividing the twin bunks is an oversized nightstand with drawers built in. Each bunk also has its own reading light. To port are two standard sized opening portlights.

Skooch comes equipped with her very own dedicated workshop, located adjacent to the guest’s quarters. The workshop features a large workbench with mounted vice, bright overhead lighting, opening portlight, toolbox, two closets, various drawers and cabinetry, and a Whirlpool stacked washer/dryer. This is a rare space as compared to other ships in her class and highly valuable to the owner/operator. Access to the engine room is also found here.

To say that the engine room aboard Skooch is large is an understatement. Although there are twin Detroit Diesel 6-71N’s, and two Northern Lights generators, there is still abundant space due to the sheer volume of the engine room. With nearly 7’ of vertical clearance, fluorescent overhead lighting and a deep bilge, Skooch is very easy to navigate while doing inspections or performing maintenance and repairs. Fuel management systems, various DC and AC electrical panels, WEMA 7 tank level monitor, hot water heater and the fixed fire suppression system line the surrounding walls. The ships Cruisair compressors are also located against the aft bulkhead. To port is the Northern lights 12kW generator, and to starboard the Northern Lights 20kW generator.

The large swim platform serves as the ideal spot for conducting dinghy operations and boarding from the aft given its favorable location close to the water. A transom boarding gate separates the swim platform from the aft cockpit.

Skooch’s cockpit places the operator closer to the water line for ease of docking, boarding and line handling. Flush mounted rod holders are located along the cap rail both port and starboard. The ships lazarette is accessed here as well with two floor hatches. To port and starboard are 50A shore power inlets.

Leading up from the cockpit is the aft deck where an arrangement of outdoor furniture lends a semi-protected outdoor seating space. The port and starboard walls are hard enclosed and feature opening windows with blinds, while the aft most is enclosed with canvas and strataglass. This area is well suited for enjoying the rainy summers of Alaska, and also the mild winters of the Caribbean. A wet bar with mini refrigerator and sink are to starboard while a 32” TV is wall mounted to port. Teak cap rails surround the perimeter, and solid doors block wind while allowing access to the port and starboard side decks.

Despite Skooch’s vast interior volume, her fully walk around and covered side decks are quite large thanks to her nearly 18’ beam. Safety rails are stainless-steel with varnished teak handrails. Both decks lead to the pilot house, and then the Portuguese bridge and foredeck. The Portuguese bridge provides safety and protection from high seas, and a barrier between the foredeck and pilothouse. Access to the foredeck is through a fiberglass door forward.
FOREDECKAccessing the foredeck on Skooch is easy and seamless. You can reach it by heading forward via the Portuguese bridge, which includes a hinged molded fiberglass door located on the starboard side. The foredeck features large deck boxes port and starboard that are perfect for storing things like fenders, shore power cords, hoses. The Rocna Vulcan 55kg anchor and 200’ of ½” chain is handled effortlessly by the Maxwell windlass, which can easily be operated by deck foot buttons or a toggle switch in the pilothouse and flybridge. There are also freshwater wash down spigots, and shore power inlets.

The flybridge and boat deck are accessed via the teak ladder in the pilothouse. The views from this elevated position are fantastic and offer a great place to operate the ship on those nice days underway. The current owners have fiberglassed in a custom bar behind the helm seat, with room for 4 or more highchairs (4 included). An additional bar was constructed to port where a stainless-steel portable gas grill rests ready for use. Additional bench seating is to aft. Skooch’s original radar arch now includes a fixed aluminum framed hard top. The Novurania 15’ dinghy rests on chocks at the furthest place aft, and is lowered into the water via the Hatteras built crane.
